Crowns are used when the tooth is badly damaged or has had to be reconstructed after root canals or root canals. A previous preparation of the tooth is necessary so that the crown can fit perfectly. They also require laboratory work and 2-3 visits are necessary until their complete placement. Once cemented, these crowns go completely unnoticed to the eye and integrate perfectly with the rest of the teeth in the mouth.

Porcelain veneers (Fig 2) are normally used when aesthetic needs are very high, as it is the material that most closely resembles a natural tooth. On the contrary, the tooth requires more preparation and the cost is somewhat higher due to the workshop work and necessary work time. Resin veneers (Fig 3) are the most frequently used, since they are used in cases where a good balance between aesthetics, speed and budget is necessary. They are faster to manufacture and repairs are also easier as they can be carried out immediately in the office.

Whitening products must be very respectful and careful with tooth enamel, as they work by opening the pore of the enamel so that the whitening product can penetrate and eliminate the molecules that cause the tooth stain. If we use a very aggressive product with too immediate effects, the enamel can suffer irreparable damage, resulting in permanent or long-lasting dental sensitivity, as the pore remains open for too long, causing both heat and cold to affect the tooth’s nerve. At Rossell-Carol we use products that are not very aggressive to enamel (Opalescence ©) with low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide, achieving a smooth and progressive tooth whitening. In this way, the enamel pore will not undergo an excessively abrupt change that could cause it to open excessively, increasing its sensitivity. Internal whitening can also be applied to promote the color change to an individual tooth (Fig 4).
